Promastigote

One of the morphological stages in the development of Leishmania species. Promastigote is an extracellular motile form that divides by longitudinal binary fisson in the sand fly. They are characterized by a free anterior flagellum and the kinetoplast at the anterior end of the body. They can be either procyclic or metacyclic form.
